GOOD NEWS HUNTING

Wednesday, April 27, 2005

I've turned on the computer, flipped the switch, and stared straight into the face of our society -turmoil and tragedy. Angelina and Brad are said to be frolicking in Africa, Jen on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Paris and Nicole have split as friends, and close behind this menagerie of rumors that feed into us like a torqued up IV is the facts of train wrecks, bus crashes, drowned toddlers, and the latest body count in Iraq.

What I want to know is what great and good thing has happened while I was sleeping? Where are the new antidotes for perils we've been delivered from? Where are the visionary's and life changers, the entrepreneur's and the pilgrims of purpose that are pressing forward as if indeed there will be a tomorrow. Where are all the bright, great ideas that will lighten our burden and affect the good of our world?

And is there some great white experiment that we can sign up for that will show us shots moment by moment of great expectations? Suppose that our waking moments were not filled with the gossip of the rich and beautiful but with news of the ordinary people that are making extraordinary changes in the lives of the people on the planet. New program for the homeless? Let me see it. New concept to drag kids out of gang violence before they get there? That's a miracle that interest me. New discoveries of science, new planets, new stars? Fill my eyes with spectacles of promise.

In this reality TV driven world can we invent a reality series that shows some slice of life that serves up the hope of an answer? Let's see, why don't we take one hopeless segment of our country, some back-water rural, forgotten poor, or an intercity impossible and roll the film and see how many REAL solutions we could interject into the situation. Sortof like a 24, meets REAL Life, meets Survivor, meets Touched by AN Angel . . . well you get the idea. Could there be a reality show that actually has the gumption to have some worthy effect on reality? Just a thought.

With all our creative talent, promise, education, sense of humor, vision, and independent freedom, could we perhaps collectively make a difference?

Somebody find us some good news. Or become some.
