Treasure Hunting
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
I've been wearing down that little tag on my key chain that opens the wonders of the library treasures to me. What have I been reading, watching, listening to? Everything. Absolutely everything. Here's my short list of my recent library haul. (And no one even grabbed me at the door saying, Stop Lady - you've over consumed.) Now, mind you - when I hit a library I'm like a woman who LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to shop. Of which I am not. But the library, oh be still my beating heart! I walk in the door and start grabbing books off of the display counters in the lobby. I mean, geez - the y are there for a reason. One of my finds in doing just that was "Digging Deep - Unearthing Your Creative Roots Through Gardening" and yes, even though I was the winner of the golden hoe award (a gift for my brown thumb from husband) I have hope that Spring and the move to the woods is going to have me transforming the yard into something that is just totally Tolkenish in no time. Okay - stay tuned for proof in the pictures. Or at least a good laugh!
Also picked up Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson on CD to listen to in the car. And Bill Cosby Telling funny stories on CD. And Maya Angelo reading her own poetry on CD. And a book about Spiritual Advice for Buddhists and Christians by the Dali Lama and Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller and Through Painted Deserts by same author, and HICK by Andrea Portes and The Great Awakening by Jim Wallis and Taming the Mind by Thubten Chodron (think you see by now why I needed THAT ONE!) - oh, and as if that wasn't enough - a few movies like The Man With No Face with Mel Gibson, and a Jack London movie - White Fang I think and one where Henry Fonda plays Abe Lincoln. And you know, I tried to check out a huge book on Rose Gardens but I had a few things come in on hold and that put me at my limit so I had to put it back. Oh, and lest I forget - a few CD's in the mix - Gregorian Chants, Sound effects for Backstory on the radio and all the movie soundtracks written and sang by Van Morrison. Now - THAT my friends is a great day at the library.
And just so bought a book and also supported our local bookstores - I picked up Barlett's Shakespeare Quotations in a bookstore this week. My favorite for the week - "Lord, what fools these mortals be!" (And I ask you - what genre did Shakespeare write in - hmmmm?)
Also - hit the TACA Art Fair in the Centenial Park this weekend. And found me a rocking chair that I will love and cherish for the rest of my live, long days. Only hurdle was it costs 6,000 dollars which I didn't have on me. Better get busy writing that next book pronto.
And that magical tree - all good God and nature. Husband pointed out how awesome it was - I took a picture a desovered later that, DANG - he was right on again. That's some good looking tree there! But I must tell you - I love trees so much that I've decided to start adding a tree to the blog on regular occasion. My tree of the week. That's a promise. Labels: art in the park, books, libraries
