It's All Happening - At Once
Saturday, January 31, 2009
When people ask me lately what is going on I kinda just look at them and go - uh huh - like I haven't heard right or something.
For those of you who have missed it - SAINTS IN LIMBO hits bookstores May 19 and the early words from readers of the special, secret, ARC edition have been so fabulous it makes me thankful all over again. And the cover! I just can't say enough about the cover and how evocative I find it. So much so I may need to add a little essay in the next edition of THE DEEP, DOWN, & DIRTY SOUTH which should be off the presses in a few weeks. Thanks to all of you who have enquired about this little special edition of personal, non-fiction stories about growing up in the south and continuing to live in the same. It's been a blast to do, sold out at the Pulpwood Queens Event (my inspiration) and will be available through the website.
Speaking of which, that Webmaster Genius Holden Richards of Kitchen Media took a look at my site and decided it needed a little up-do. So up-do he is doing next week and the River Jordan site will have a new look top to bottom. I like it as it is but I'm so excited. It's much better than those What NOT to Wear folks showing up at my door which would be a real nightmare. Cousin Deb thinks I should submit my name just so I get a new look to which I respond - SHUT -uuuup.
Strangers coming to one's door, and saying, OH let me guess, she has black, black and more black and talking bad about my clothes and then making me try on my clothes and then sending me out with money to shop where they secretly watch me on hidden cameras going - Oh just look, she's picking out something BLACK. No thanks. Life is too short. I'll just throw up some jeans, try one more time to steal (uhhmmmm - I mean borrow) my sister's cowboy boots, a black t-shirt and I'm out the door. I am a girlie-girl from the aspect that I don't bait my own hook. I am not a girlie-girl from the aspect that I hate to shop for clothes. HATE IT! But yet, I wear perfume 24/7 even when I'm alone in black jeans and t at home. Preferences Channel #5 and Coco Mademoiselle. This are the fragrances I would wear camping.
Okay - off to do River Jordan Radio - things on 98.9lpfm Nashville or www.radiofreenashville.org Great news coming up on the show about the writing world, new novels coming out, and great music so tune in. Also, posting a list of upcoming guests like Silas House and Kayla McKlaren so stay tuned for the details.
And Keep counting with me! Daylight savings time returns - March 4th. Yeah!!!! Labels: Daylight Savings time, radio marathon, Silas House, What not to wear

Pulpwood Queens Keep On Rolling
Monday, January 26, 2009
For those of you who haven't checked out the site at Shellie Rushing Thomlinson has posted new ones as well. For me - well, it's the friends we make that are everlasting but a few sights I enjoy on any road trip or things that strike my fancy or take my breath away. Just like that shot above the clouds on the way to Dallas and then that great get-em-up blue truck in downtown Jefferson. Now that is my way to cruise on a Saturday night. Yes, sir! Now, for me, I'd like a little mead and to hibernate until SPRING! You can take the gir l out of Florida but you can't take the sunshine out of my bones! The only thing I can do is curl up with a good book - or a few thousand on a cold day and enjoy! Hey - more info coming on the second Printing of The Deep, Down, and Dirty South so stay tuned!

THE PULPWOOD QUEENS RIDE AGAIN 2009!
Monday, January 19, 2009

WELL - BLING AND BIG HAIR was back in style in Jefferson, Texas this weekend and ONCE AGAIN Kathy Patrick - founder and head pulpwood queen got me to do things I would never, never, ever do in public. One of them is to have a rip-roaring good time. The other is to wear big hair, bangles, spangles, and bling - and to get pinned into a dress that I couldn't get out of and YES you HAD TO BE THERE! (Now all ya'll remember what I said about Jesus and those pictures of fatback on facebook!) And look here is the crowning moment as author Kaya McLaren won the coveted Pulpwood Queen award with crowning barbie doll. There wasn't a dry eye in the house I tell you!
And the other great news was that because The Pulpwood Queens repeatedly asked me to put together some stories like the ones I tell in person, to write them down and bind them - I did. The result was a little book called The Deep, Down, & Dirty South and it sold out of the special first edition at Girlfriend Weekend and is headed into its second printing.
Every year I think I just can't muster up the time, money, or mojo to get back to Girlfriend Getaway Weekend and yet when I go I think I CAN NEVER MISS THIS. It is the wildest, most unique and one of a kind book events that I know of. That's right - there is nothing like it. I am still recovering from the good times and the travel so I will have to catch my breath and reflect a little and update the blog. But I'm hoping that a few of the videos here will be able to be opened so that you can witness the TimberKings singing their special Pulpwood Queen song and for you to witness author Kaya McLaren jamming with Celebrate Good Times and I guess that could have been the theme song. (Okay - check back on that one as it looks like I have to You Tube and then bring it back in!)
I must tell you for a quiet, shy writer girl who likes to blend into the wall paper at functions - the lasting friendships and memories of Girlfriend Weekend is worth everything it gets to be there in spades and then some.
Thank you again, Kathy Patrick for making a place for the founding of new friendships from Coast to Coast built on the pleasure, purpose, and power of our stories.
