River Jorden,
I wanted to share with you the far reaching effects of your resolution and book. I have shared the book with so many and adapted it for my resolution. I am continually blessed and amazed at how life changing the action is. I have chosen to share this with those who know me and continue to, in my own way, try to make a difference and inspire them. This Friday, my stranger experience was an amazing blessed experience for me. As I have shared it with others, I thought I should share it with you, so you know just how much of an affect you are having--Jana

Ever have on of those days at work where you felt like you were being screwed over? That was me today--I wasn't very happy that this was occurring. I admit that I was all whiny and pissy about it. Then at the end of the day I had the most amazing blessing. A blessing that could not have occurred if my day had not played out as it did.
Some of you may know that my New Year's resolution has been to single out one friend, co worker, patient or stranger each day to say special prayers for. Yes, I still pray each day for lots of friends, family, coworkers, and patients too. But this person is my special person and I don't know why, but the prayers for them that day just seem more connected or golden to me. Everyday, someone specific gets this golden prayer.
Today I was blessed to know that this man was my stranger. He was they boyfriend of my last patient. He walked by joyfully telling the gift shop clerk and me his great news "there was no cancer". He had seemed so distracted when sitting at her bedside before the procedure. She told me on the way back that he was her Ex-boyfriend, but that he had stood by her during her emergency surgery and the time since. She described their struggles. We did the procedure and did not find any cancer. Just by chance, I was in the gift shop later to witness the joy he still had more than 30 minutes after hearing the news. But as he walked out the front door, I got tears in my eyes and a tug at my heart. I knew he was my stranger. I had to catch him and he needed to know. I finally caught him at the end of the steps. I told him of my resolution. Tears welled up in his eyes as he hugged me. He told me his story and struggles today. We cried, hugged and talked as the snowflakes kept falling down. We parted with words of love and my prayers for him being lifted up.
I was so blessed to get to pray for my stranger today."

Your book on praying for strangers is wonderful. The beauty of it is the terse chapters, all different stories. I may buy my own copy. I took this one out of the library. I am going to encourage my wife to read the book, too.
Just finished praying for strangers. Wow it seems You have changed how I will look at strangers. You also have your head up these days to notice those you are looking for. We have mostly become too busy for their needs and if we keep our head down we do not have to see their needs. Heads up everyone. My neighbor also pq said she had finished your life changing book . Write on girlfriend. Praying for you.
River,
I met you at Girlfriends Weekend in Jefferson in January.
I just finished your book. It was very revealing of how God has worked in your life and caused me to realize that God has been working in my life along the same lines. I pray for strangers all the time. Some times I see a person on the street and just pray for them or I hear sirenes from my bedroom at night and pray for the first responders or for the medical helicopters flying over. I don't ever know the stories of the people I pray for but I know God does and I feel he causes me to pray for them. Thank you for all that you do for others.

I am just reading your facebook post about praying for strangers. A long time ago I read a Norman Vincent Peale book about how he used to sit in the mall or airport and shoot prayers at people as they were walking by, I tried doing that like when I was driving and pulled up along side someone in the car next to me and prayed a blessing for them in their life. Just a few weeks before Christmas I was in the check out line at Walmart buying something for my car and the cashier made a joke about at least your car isn't held together with duck tape and coat hangers and I laughed thinking he was joking. And he said he was serious and started telling about his car and the condition it was in. Right then and there I started praying for him, thinking how blessed I am, and what he must be going through, working at Walmart and just barely making it. I look for him since then and haven't seen him. But somewhere there is a man named Roger that has been prayed for that God would bless his life. I truly believe in this concept. Prayer is suppose to be a selfless act because God gets all the Glory for hearing and answering, its up to us to ASK and we may never know the outcome but God does!!!
I loved that you tell people you are praying for them! I have often wondered if anyone prays for me and joined a church for that reason, to be part of a praying family and learn to be strong in grief and dissapointment. When we pray for each other we recognize our importance to God and to others and that is huge in how we feel about one another. Our hands, words and hearts are His here on earth and our prayers are His heart.
Please pray for me as I struggle to respond appropriately and without anger but in strength, thank you.

I really enjoyed meeting you at FBC Rome. I've been in Kentucky most of the week, but I've heard lots of good comments about your talk on January 1.
Thank you so much!

I just received my Guideposts magazine and the article about you and your book "praying for Strangers" is wonderful. May God continue to bless you and guide your every step
A friend is reading your book and called to tell me about it. My two sons served in Iraq for two deployments. They served together and I found peace when I finally realized that it was good that they had each other to talk to and watch out for. As Jim said "when I see Joe I see home". I cannot wait to read your book.
I recently finished your book, "Praying for Strangers" and I have not been the same since. It really confirmed something in my spirit that I've known for a long time. There are no chance meetings, no interaction with another that is too small to make a big difference. God is so good. Thank you River for being obedient to the call that was placed on your heart. It continues to make a difference for so many. It has had a tremendous impact on me. Hope someday to be able to give you a big hug of thanks. I'm praying for a stranger too.

I was at a clearance sale at Border's in Manhattan yesterday and somehow amidst that semi-chaos my eyes fell on your book Praying For Strangers. I have only read about 30 pages so far but I already know that I have found a gem. I will be recommending it to friends. I know it will have a strong positive impact on them. Thank you and congratulations on making a BIG difference.

Hi River,
I went into the book store today to pick up a book my 8 year old son "won" by reading 8 books for a summer reading program. Well, I did that and found my way up to the religion/philosophy section. With no particular book in mind, but feeling like I was looking for something, my eyes went straight to "Praying for Strangers" like it was the only book there. I picked it up, read the jacket, felt a really good feeling - and walked to the register. I didn't look at another book or even think about doing so... It was so random, but it wasn't random at all. I do feel like I was guided to your book for some reason, and I can't wait to start reading it tonight. Thank you for writing it....

I took my daughter in law to a local book store so she could do some shopping, and as I was glancing at some of the newer books along the center aisle this title, Praying for Strangers, caught my eye. I am a Hospice nurse. I pray for my patients, and their families. I also pray for people that I see or come in contact with that I feel may be in need of prayer. So when I saw this book I thought it would be interesting to hear about praying for strangers from someone else.
I was so moved by your story, as I would only occasionally tell people I was praying for them. I am like you, I keep alot of things private, especially my prayers. I thank you so much for writing this book as I have been enlightened to see the incredible value and importance in sharing my prayer, and what a difference it can make in peoples lives.

I wish I had read (Praying for Strangers) prior to May, so that I could have listed it as one of my most inspirational reads of all time. I read this book cover to cover and think it will top my gift list for friends and family members. It’s a book that, above all else, reminds us of the need for universal kindness.
In this personal memoir, Jordan manages to scrape away our shells and prove, once and for all, that we are all the same…hurting, searching, and longing for deeper connections.

Started reading Praying for Strangers yesterday and finished today. It would be a good book for a home group! I was taken with each story and could see the means of applying it to my daily life. Being a retired person I am not out and about in our community every day, but I have made a point over the past year of praying for people on the news and in particular for the firefighters and paramedics whose sirens I often hear. I will share this book with many and encourage others to order it. I am always looking for the "one small thing" that I know I can do and be faithful to put into practice. Thank you!!
I am a pastor who loves to encounter the generosity of Yahweh in the biblical story. I just read Praying for Strangers this week - a gently piercing and evocative journey. Thanks for opening your heart - I suspect the book will be a road map for many weary souls...

I started a ladies prayer group about 3 years ago and just wanted to let you know that we have been praying for our Service men and women everyday. So I guess if your young men were in Service during 2008-2011 we have been praying for them also. We pray only the best for you and your family. I really enjoy reading your book, "Praying for Strangers".
I finished the book and recommend it to everyone. Your last words..."this one tiny, incredible thing"...if we could all take up the practice in our own little part of the world, I know it would bring about a great change and an awakening. Thank you for sharing this Journey

I am almost finished with your book "Praying for Strangers". This book has inspired me like no other book I have ever read except the Bible! I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and have received huge amounts of prayer. As I read your book I was so moved that I told myself it is time to pray for others in the way you brought out in your book. So my resolution is just that and I have already started and have received the wonderful results just like you bring out in your book. I want to tell you that last Tuesday was my first day to pray for "a stranger". I was in a sandwich shop here in town sitting and waiting for my to go order. A lady across the way was waiting also. Just like your book says I felt that stirring and I sensed she was my stranger. I walked over to her and ask her name. I told her I had received many prayers last year and I had made a resolution to pray for a stranger everday. Her eyes lit up and her face said it all! I left that shop feeling so much better than when I walked in. Because of your book I now look for someone to connect with everyday.
Thank you for writing with honesty and thank you for writing this book.

Ms. Jordan,
I am reading your book. I came to the SC book fair because my husband's childhood friend wrote a book and was a part of your panel...but I am blessed for meeting you....I did not know you before the book fair but I knew thatRiver Jordan was your name before you where introduced...(go figure)..your answers to the questions were honest and true to our everyday lives. I read a book a year ago called "Same Kind of Different AS Me". It lifted my spirits and so I passed it on to my friends. I will tell my friends to read "Praying for Strangers." They all own kindle's. I'm a hardcover girl. God gave you the gift of writing and your are a caretaker of words.
Very Respectfully, Wille

Am halfway through Praying for Strangers that we got in the store yesterday. It. Is. Amazing. Unbelievably amazing. You, in your honesty, in simplicity, and gorgeous prose have gone straight to the heart,to my heart and soul. This, my friend, is a beautiful soul-sharing, and I am thrilled with the book, with your writing, with having opportunity to be your friend, and with what this book means to me and will to so many people. I am off today but have just called the store and asked them to order a boatload of your book. I can't wait to hand sell it nor to see you soon. Just had to let you know. I've been doing the Praying for Strangers..not daily but often. I have met wonderful people who are going through tough times and need encouraging words.
But yesterday I met someone who needed more.We were in the Walmart checkout lane and she bumped into me - twice. I turned around and checked my irritated response.
She looked stressed and had 2 small children in the basket with a few groceries. Her arm had the tell-tale bandage of a blood test.
When I saw her, I knew this woman was my stranger. I gave her your card and asked her name, Beverly.
And she began her story Single mom, 2 children, both parents in hospital, and now her heart was stressed and she was scheduled for an echocardiogram in the morning. She was grateful for prayers for her but really wanted them for her parents and children. I added them to my prayer list.
After I paid for my groceries and had taken two steps away, I heard her say to the cashier, ring these first I don't know if I can pay for all. I said a prayer and turned around. I paid for her.

Hi River,
My friend, Heidi Holtan, from KAXE in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, let me borrow her book, Praying for Strangers". I listened to your radio interview last week, and wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoyed reading your book. 've already bought one for a gift for a friend. My favorite story was when you were in the tow truck, thinking about your car, and you pass a homeless man, make eye contact and he gives you the peace sign.
Your book was so enjoyable to read, and it also made me much more aware of people that I have encounters with on a daily basis. I've always smiled at strangers and I find it easy to talk to strangers. I think our human connection is so strong, and your book encourages me that much more.
I don't think it was just a coincidence that I read your book, listened to your interview and then read this reading. (*beautiful passage not shared due to space limitations) We are all connected in more ways that we even believe. One of my favorite quotes is by a Minnesota author, Kent Nerburn. He states, "What happens to the least of us, affects all of us."
Thank you for your book and for being you!
Sincerely,
Karen Oothoudt

Thank you!!

Karen Schwettman, Foxtale Book Shoppe

They all own kindle's.
Thank you for Praying for Strangers

Hi River,
My friend, Heidi Holtan, from KAXE in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, let me borrow her book, Praying for Strangers".
