Carolyn Haines and Jim Palmer Ride into Backstory 2/23

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Okay - are you ready to meet one of those authors who writes in multiple genres, multiple pen names, and manages to win awards across the board? Well, I know I am and I can't wait for Carolyn Haines to tell us how she keeps it straight and makes it look so easy! Haines is a multi-genre author whose latest work, Revenant, is a finalist for best contemporary mystery in the Romantic Times awards. Fever Moon, a historical thriller released this year, is a Book Sense notable book, and Ham Bones, the seventh in the Mississippi Delta Mystery series, was a best-seller on the Ingrams list and the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association list.

She is a contributor to the anthology, Many Bloody Returns, which hit the New York Times bestseller list this fall. She is the author of Bones to Pick, Hallowed Bones, Crossed Bones, Splintered Bones, Buried Bones, Them Bones—mysteries all set in the Mississippi Delta. Wishbones is set for release July, 2008.Touched and Summer of the Redeemers, two general fiction novels, have been reissued in trade paperback. Her first non-fiction book, My Mother’s Witness: The Peggy Morgan Story (River City Publishing), tells the story of a woman who testified against Byron De La Beckwith. Writing under the pseudonym Caroline Burnes, she has written thirty-eight Harlequin Intrigues, many of them featuring Familiar, the black cat detective. The author was awarded a 1998 writing fellowship by the Alabama State Arts Council. Her books have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Haines is a native of Mississippi, but she makes her home in Semmes and teaches the graduate and undergraduate fiction writing classes at the University of South Alabama.

And if you ever wondered how God somehow wandered into a predictable, sensible box and stayed there, then check in with us as Jim Palmer talks about his revelations that led him to write Divine Nobodies. Truth is, I like anybody right up front that comes up with that title.

Jim Palmer.

Palmer's widely acclaimed first book, Divine Nobodies, earned him widespread acclaim as one of our next great spiritual writers - a writer of emotional depth, self-deprecating humor, gifted storytelling, and profound insight. In his next book Wide Open Spaces, Jim strikes to the heart, calling readers to consider whether their neatly constructed concepts of God haven’t prevented them from experiencing the awe-inspiring depths of God himself. He is the founder of the Pilgrimage Project, an initiative encouraging the freedom to imagine, dialogue, live, and express new possibilities for being an authentic Christian and he's willing and able to tell us just what all that means.

Add in a visit with a 'Dead Guy', a few updates on writerly happenings in Nashville and around the world, and some of the best, electic music mix you'll hear anywhere and you've got another Backstory show worth waiting for. Set your clocks and put your feet up and get snappy - it's Saturday.

Great music, great stories, and great company.

Tune in live at 98.9fm Nashville, *SAP Channel 10, Davidson County, and through Radio Free Nashville live linked world-wide.

"Mystical and magically written, Saints In Limbo, is a beautiful novel from start to finish. With vivid characters and lush language, readers will find themselves thinking of Augusta Trobaugh's Resting in the Bosom of the Lamb. Fans of River Jordan will be thrilled with this latest work."
