Type of contemporary art wherein the concept or ideas that a work expresses are considered its essential level, with its visible appearance being of secondary (often negligible) importance. By the start of the twentieth century, however, the perception of dreams has taken a flip. They are still a supply of revelation¬†in response to Sigmund Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams,¬†revealing emotional truths. For the artists we call Surrealists, dream imagery was a serious supply of their work. Dreams tapped into fact as it was found in their unconscious minds, opposite of rationality and purpose.
